Maya Tutorial - Head Modeling 4

Image
I found the eye modeling really hard to do as I just couldn't seem to get it to match what was being shown. The outter corner of the eye is what was botheringas I can tell that it is too far back but each time that I tried to bring it foward the rest of the eye messes up. I might have to go back and try and fix it before I move on to the next part. Doing this tutorial has made me think about different ways that I cold model an eye but not having to do it like this so that I do wast time trying to fix it all the time.

Perspectives: 5 Reasons Why Scream Is Postmoden

Image
5 reasons why the 1996 film Scream by Wes Craven is seen as being postmodern. 1 - The film is self-aware of it's self and the genre that it is in. Scream 's characters have watched all of the horror films that have come before it such as Halloween (1978), Friday the 13th (1980) and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) which Craven also worked on. Freddy Krueger even makes a cameo. 2 - It is nostalgic as it reminds the viewer what it is about the slasher genre that they love so much as well as pointing out some of the key patterns that happen in the plot of these types of films, which is the main reason as to why the slasher genre started to die out. 3 - Scream can be seen as being a parody of the horror genre. The characters like to point out the stupid decisions that horror film characters make that end up with them getting killed. The character Sidney Prescott, when asked if she likes horror films, says "What's the point? They're all the same. Some stup

Character Design: Environment Thumbnails

Image
After what I had learnt in our environment thumbnail drawing lesson I had a go at trying to use the forground, midground and background to show depth. Thumbnail 1 Thumbnail 2 Thumbnail 3 Thumbnail 4 Thumbnail 5 This really helped me alot as I struggled to show the scale or to show the idea of space in my thumbnails. I also had a go at doing some thumbnails in Photoshop so that I could think about how the colours would look if the object was closer to the forground or if it was in the background. Character Design: Lesson 5

Image
In our 5th lesson we looked at the way that the line of action of the character can be used to make them seem more real. This was to make sure that they didn't seem stiff along with having a natural bend in their bodies. Drawings 1 Drawings 2 Drawings 3 Drawings 4 Drawings 5 To understand the flow of the body we were put into groups and each one of us made a pose that the others had to the skeleton of. It took me alittle while to get my head round the idea that the different parts of the arms and legs have a bend in them but I soon started to understand how it works. Drawings 6 Drawings 7 Drawings 8 Drawings 9  Drawings 6 and 7 were done before the lesson and Drawings 8 and 9 were done afterwards. I can easily see how the line of action can help to make the character more real and alive. It has also given me a chance to play around with the personality of my character so that I can understand how they woul

Tide is Out Storybroad Crocodile Storybroad  Here are some more storybroads that I have done for my groups' "When Not To Swim" animation. One of them is a redesign of an idea that we had before but got changed after some feedback. For the "When Not To Swim - Tide Is Out" skit our Victorian Gentleman appears wearing an old diving suit. When he goes to jump in the water goes out revealing that it was shallow, his head hits the floor and his whole body falls back over, however, he still tries to swim as normal even if their is no water. We chose to redo the "When Not To Swim - Crocodile" scene when we got some feedback about how we could play it out differently. Our Victorian Gentleman would be swimming along as but a Crocodile would suddenly appear under him, lifting him out of the water as he still tries to swim along.

Film Review: Kung Fu Panda - Act Structure

Image
Kung Fu Panda (2008) directed by John Stevenson and Mark Osborne can be broken down in to the different acts that take place. Sometimes it can be broken down in to a 3 act stuctre or a 5 act stuctre but ever way they both have the same points that happen in the story that introduct the characters, show us what problems they have to face that lead up to the big cilmax before everything is goes back to the way that it was at the begining. Below is how I have broken down Kung Fu Panda using the 5 act stuctre along with working out the plot and ending type of the film. The 5 Act Stuctre shown with Freytag's Pyramid The plot of the film is similar to a Arc Plot. Po changes as the story goes on and the characters around him also change. This means that when one thing happens it will affect what happens next or start the next sturcture. I see the ending of Kung Fu Panda as being a Partial Ending as the story has ended but we get the feeling that this is not the end of Po and

Maya Tutorial: Arnold Shaders

Image
I had alot of fun playing around with the AI Standard Surface shader in Maya 2018 and I found it easy to use, but I think that I will need to sit down and work out what each slider does and what effect it will have. Scene 1  Scene 1 was me just trying out some of the setting untill I made something that I liked the look of as well as trying out some of the persets like Gold and Jade. Scene 2  I couldn't help it I just had to make every thing a bubble when I found out about the Bubble perset. (Scene 2) Scene 3  I also wanted to see what the Jade perset (Scene 3) would look like on the different shapes. Where as with the Glass perset (Scene 4) I edited a bit to try and work out what each part did, which made some of the shapes look like jelly. Scene 4 Scene 5 The last perset I tried was the Chrome one (Scene 5) which I might come back to and try editing to see how the shine works.

Character Design: Lesson 4

Image
In todays lesson we worked on looking at how to make an effective environment thumbnail. To get an idea of how to do this we were each given three words to create some thumbnails based on them, mine were Luxury, Palace and Victorian London. 1st page of drawings 2nd page of drawings 3rd page of drawings 4th page of drawings 5th page of drawings One thing that I need to work on is the use of foreground, midground and background as well as layering things over eachother.

Perspectives: Postmodernism Words 4

Avant-garde - Meaning vanguard in French, avant-garde was a movement in the modernism era that challenged the art world by creating paintings that didn't follow what was expected at the time. Works of art normaly showed scenes from the Bible or other works of literature but with avant-garde it chose to show scenes that didn't have a story. Nostalgia - Nostalgia is the feeling that we get when we remenber something from our past. It can also be used as a marketing technique when creating a new instalment of a film or rebooting the franchise, people who remenber when the film first film came out will be drawn to the new relate so that they can relive the past again. Appropriation - This is when artists take from other souces and repurposes it for their own work. This is common in the postmodernism as many artists were looking at different places cultures for ideas that could help to make their work stand out more and also to fight back against what people thought, and said, i

Crocodile Storybroad Piranha Storybroad Rubber Ring Storybroad 3 storybroads for some of my team's animation ideas. These are to visually show how the jokes with our character would play out and if need be need to be changed. The first shows our idea for "When Not To Swim - Crocodile". The Victorian Gentleman jumps off the edge of a pier but lands in a Crocodile's mouth, he stops in mid air and tries to 'swim' his way out before the Crocodile snaps it's mouth closed. The second is "When Not To Swim - Piranha". This one is a bit simpler to understand than the others. Our character is happly swiming along but as he gets out of the water a Piranha is shown to be bitting his butt. The last one is "When Not To Swim - Rubber Ring". The idea for the rubber ring is that the Victorian Gentleman walks to the breach and pulls the cord, but the rubber ring start to inflate too much and covers his body. Afterwards, he walks in

Character Design: Lesson 3

Image
In our 3rd lesson we looked at the way we could build up our world that our characters coming from. This could include thinking about the type of art style we are using or the setting that they are in, for me I have to think about how simple my designs will fit in with the iconic style that I have been given. 1st page of drawings 2nd page of drawings 3rd page of drawings One thing that I need to work on is useing different shapes for the head as I always use a circuit as the base.
